Everything a New Crew Parent Needs to Know About the Upcoming Fall Rowing Season for Youth

You're thinking of enrolling your child into rowing but you know next to nothing about the sport.  The most important thing to know is Rowing changes kids in all the right ways. It builds discipline, confidence, and the kind of inner drive that lasts a lifetime.

At Triad United Rowing, we’re not just creating athletes — we’re helping teens become leaders. Rowing teaches them to show up early, push through challenges, and work as part of something bigger than themselves.

Whether your child is looking for a sport, a team, or just a place to belong, they’ll find it here — on the water, with us.

There are many reasons to row beyond just the physical Zen of propelling yourself across the water. We believe rowing will improve your child's academics and transform them into leaders. The scholarship opportunities for girls in college are immense now that the NCAA has raised the cap to 64 full rides for rowing per school.
Our rowers have gone on to compete for Harvard, Princeton, Carolina, Clemson University, Alabama, Louisville, Syracuse, Oklahoma, and the US Naval Academy, to name just a few Division I programs!

Triad United is the premier rowing team in the Triad and finished 8th in the USA at the 2025 Youth Nationals and we are recruiting to race in England in 2026. No experience necessary. We are recruiting soccer players, swimmers, volleyball players, lacrosse players, any athlete with heart and wants to be part of something historic and special. Join Triad United on Oak Hollow Lake in High Point.

No experience? No problem. Just bring the work ethic. We’ll take care of the rest.

So, what makes our rowers so great? The sport transforms youth in tangible ways and just having Rowing on a student's resume can sky rocket them to the top of college admissions lists. Here’s one reason why our rowers do so well: when college admissions officers look at applications and see a student is a rower they are not immediately thinking “Our school needs rowers!” They are thinking this is a student with great grades, who is participating in a serious extra curricular activity, which directly correlates with successful academic outcomes at the college level.

OK so you have got this far and are willing to try bringing your child down to the lake kicking and screaming to give it a Row. What's next? Well, it starts with your child being a confident swimmer for safety reasons.

Next, we have two learn to row opportunities that won't cost you a cent.  Both opportunities are completely free and your child can attend both! Can't make it every day? No problem, Just show up when you can to Oak Hollow Lake in High Point at this address: 3700 Waterview Road, High Point. Enter the parking lot and you will see our boats to the right.
