Triad United Shows Strong Early Season Form in Clemson
Lake Hartwell, SC - Triad United opened its 2026 spring season with a number of strong wins and medal performances at the Clemson Sprints rowing regatta on Saturday.
The regatta, hosted by Clemson University, attracted 147 boat entries from 23 clubs from surrounding states. Triad United raced 8 boats at the event winning 5 gold, 2 silver and 1 bronze.
Auryn Thompson kicked off racing for Triad United winning the gold in the Men's U19 Single Sculls in the time of 8 minutes 32 seconds, ahead of Jordan Lake's Kemper and rowers from Charleston.
Lamia Bunton made her racing debut in the single scull on Saturday winning silver in the U17 event in the time of 8min 13 secs.
Siblings Fyona and Lyam Thompson then won the next gold for Triad United by winning the Mixed Open Double Sculls race with a time of 8 minutes 51 seconds over an experienced North Carolina Rowing Center.
Gold medals continued to flow for Triad United in the Men's U19 Double Sculls. With so many boats entered into the event the organizers split the field into two races. Triad's Max Ludemann and Dennis Kosachevskyy won the first race by a huge margin in 7 min 29 seconds.
Triad's Alex Dyson and Camilo Hernandez then won the second double sculls final with Triad's Jackson Judge and Auryn Thompson claiming the silver medal.
The Women's Double Sculls event also had an abundance of entries and was split into two finals. Lamia Bunton teamed up with her younger sister Cora to win the bronze medal in the first final. Triad's Caroline Artiga and Paige Lindsay then won Triad's 5th gold medal of the day by winning the second final.
"Racing at Clemson was a last minute decision for us so this was a pleasant outcome for the team," said head coach Gene Kininmonth. "All our rowers won medals today. This gives us a good platform to build on heading into the state championships in two weeks."
The team now returns to training on Oak Hollow Lake in High Point before hosting the Lenny Peters Cup and Bethany Medical North Carolina Rowing Championships at Festival Park on April 18.
