Ukraine Olympic Women's Rowing Team Set to Race Duke and Clemson Universities at High Point Autumn Rowing Festival

Oak Hollow Lake, High Point, NC - The Ukraine Olympic women's rowing team will be coming to the United States to race women's crews from Duke and Clemson University at the High Point Autumn Rowing Festival presented by Bethany Medical on October 8, 2023.

"Hosting these world class Universities in a match up with Ukraine at this pivotal time in that nation's history is an extraordinary opportunity to showcase these rowers," says regatta director Gene Kininmonth. "It is such an honor that these teams will race here in the city of High Point."

Up to 800 rowers and thousands of spectators from surrounding states are expected for the annual rowing festival on High Point's Oak Hollow Lake with races scheduled to run all day in youth, collegiate and adult (Masters) boat classes.

Ukraine, Duke and Clemson will headline the rowing festival when they race for the prestigious Lenny Peters Cup at 10AM. Crews will line up at Skeet Club Bridge and race out to the center of Oak Hollow Lake, where they will row a 180-degree turn around a giant inflatable duck back to the main channel before turning toward the finish line at Festival Park.

The Ukrainian rowers are currently training in Kiev even as war continues in their homeland. But in an extraordinary twist this team stands to be Ukraine's best chance for Olympic gold in Paris next year after recently winning the quad sculls at the European Rowing Championships.
