University of Cambridge, Duke, UNC Set to headline boat races at the 2022 High Point Autumn Rowing Festival
Oak Hollow Lake, High Point, NC - Duke, UNC Chapel Hill, and England’s University of Cambridge will headline racing at the 2022 High Point Autumn Rowing Festival presented by Bethany Medical at High Point's Oak Hollow Lake on October 2.
Up to 800 rowers and thousands of spectators from surrounding states are expected for the annual rowing festival with races scheduled to run all day in youth, collegiate and adult (Masters) boat classes.
The University of Cambridge, Duke University, and UNC Chapel Hill will race for the prestigious Dr. Lenny Peters Cup.
“We will see England's finest talent against North Carolina's best in this boat race,” says race director Gene Kininmonth. “Cambridge University is royalty in the rowing world. The annual Boat Race between Oxford & Cambridge on the River Thames attracts millions of TV viewers worldwide. Hosting these collegiate programs is an extraordinary opportunity to showcase the sport and put an international spotlight on the city of High Point."
Cambridge is currently the top women’s rowing program in England and is expected to start the favorite against UNC and NCAA-ranked Duke.
Crews will line up at Skeet Club Bridge and race out to the center of Oak Hollow Lake, where they will row a 180-degree turn around a giant inflatable duck back to the main channel before turning toward the finish line at Festival Park.
WANT TO GO? Races begin at 9am. The regatta is open to the general public and admission is free. Parking is $10.

In addition to scenic views of the rowing on Oak Hollow Lake, spectators will enjoy listening to Carolina Beach Blast music and feast from a number of food trucks serving coffee, slushies, burgers and tacos.
Prior to racing a dinner on the water front on Saturday evening will be held to welcome the visiting international British crew. All are welcome to attend but given space limitations dinner tickets should be ordered in advance to avoid disappointment as the event is expected to sell out quickly.
Entry to the race venue is free to the general public. However, for those looking for a more luxurious setting, The Regatta Lounge will be open for guests to watch the races in comfort, enjoy coffee, pastries, lunch and alcoholic refreshments throughout the day. Enjoy a glass of champagne or the signature Regatta cocktail while watching the races and making new rowing friends. (Must be 21 to enter). Opens at 8am for coffee and pastries. Advance bookings are required. All inclusive for $75 (early bird rate). PURCHASE TIX HERE.
The annual rowing festival is organized by Triad United Rowing Association (formerly High Point Rowing Club) and has grown each year since its inception in 2014. Kininmonth says he expects a record number of race entries this year.
