High Point Announces 'Project Majestic'

High Point Announces 'Project Majestic'

High Point is rapidly becoming a boutique destination in the sport of rowing.  Thousands of rowers and spectators throng to Oak Hollow Lake from surrounding states twice each year for the North Carolina Rowing Championships in April and the High Point Autumn rowing Festival in October. In 2025 our city will host Team USA against eight of the fastest rowers from around the world in a series of match races for the Lenny Peters Cup.

To further enhance High Point's status as a world center for rowing, the club is seeking to acquire a traditional Umpire Launch for race day. Made in England, this would be the first and only boat of its kind in the United States.

And not just any Umpire Launch - the club is seeking to purchase 'Majestic,' a 42 foot long boat constructed by hand in England in 1902. Originally made for the Chemist Jesse Boots (Walgreens Boots Co) this Umpire Launch has seen service for 100 years following famous boat races such as Oxford & Cambridge on the River Thames and Henley Royal Regatta. She has carried members of the British Royal Family and even the actress Grace Kelly.

Majestic would provide the city of High Point with the ultimate flex in the rowing world. Her mahogany exterior will be varnished to its original luster and the boat can be delivered to High Point from London in time for the next spring regatta in April. In addition to the Race Umpire she would carry the most important VIPs and guests on race day and thousands would look on enviously from shore.

It will take funding to bring Majestic to High Point and we are looking to High Point's finest leaders to make this happen.  Please reach out to Gene Kininmonth contact@highpointrowing.com or (336) 257-9009 with any questions about this project which requires funding of $75.000.
