Paris Olympians Set to Headline Dr Lenny Peters Cup at 2024 High Point Autumn Rowing Festival
The 2024 High Point Autumn Rowing Festival will host international rowing teams featuring Paris Olympians racing regional NCAA programs for the Dr. Lenny Peters Cup when the annual event takes place at Oak Hollow Lake On October 6.
Race director Gene Kininmonth says the annual rowing regatta presented by Bethany Medical & the Lenny Peters Foundation continues to grow and attract world wide interest.
"We expect a record number of 1200 rowers and several thousand spectators at this year's 2024 HPARF. The addition of Paris Olympians is drawing additional interest this year," said Kininmonth.
Racing for the Dr. Lenny Peters Cup from overseas will be the Ukraine Olympic women's team and the University of Oxford, England. The Division I NCAA US teams will be women's crews from Duke University, Old Dominion University, and local favorite High Point University. The teams will participate in a series of match races.
"Perhaps the most interesting match race of the day will be between the world's oldest university rowing team (Oxford) against the world's newest Div I team in High Point University," says Kininmonth. The two teams will race at 10:30am.
With key corporate support coming from Bethany Medical and the Lenny Peters Foundation, the sport of rowing has taken off at Oak Hollow Lake. Kininmonth says his club Triad United was already hosting good regional rowing events for several years. "But the influx of funding support from Dr. Peters and the direction he has provided our race committee has guided us to an international standard."
In addition to the rowing, there will be food trucks and a beer garden called the Duck Bar for locals. There will also be a Best in Show Dog competition. Bring your friendly dog on a leash."
