Rowing Committee Celebrates Successful Regatta with Dr. Lenny Peters and City Officials
It was a gorgeous evening under the stars on the roof top venue of Bethany Medical Research Plaza Wednesday night as the rowing committee joined city officials and Dr. Lenny Peters, head of Bethany Medical for a post race celebration of the successful 2023 North Carolina Rowing Championships.
The rowing championships drew thousands to High Point in mid April bringing an economic injection of more than $900,000 according to Visit HP.
Lenny Peters Foundation director John Joyce welcomed guests to Bethany Medical's lovely roof top reception venue with its retractable glass roof before introducing Dr. Lenny Peters - who needed no introduction. Dr. Peters spoke highly of the rowing championships and the efforts of the regatta committee to host such a high end event in High Point.
As the presenting sponsors, Bethany Medical and the Lenny Peters Foundation have already invested $50,000 in the North Carolina Rowing Championships and High Point Autumn Rowing Festival. On Wednesday evening Dr. Peters presented Triad United Rowing director Gene Kininmonth with a check for an additional $10,000 to further enhance the value these rowing events are bringing to the local community.
Gene thanked Dr. Peters and talked about how supportive High Point has been toward these rowing events. "It began with the City of High Point Parks department getting behind having a team here, said Gene. "Then Nancy Bowman and Melody Burnett at Visit High Point saw that lots of rowers and their families were coming to our events and they helped fund more infrastructure at Oak Hollow Lake."
"Now Bethany Medical and the Lenny Peters Foundation have put a spotlight on High Point on the world stage as we host the best crews from surrounding states and overseas. I am so thankful to Dr. Peters for this," said Gene.
Guests of Dr. Peters, which included city councilors Monica Peters, Victor Jones, and Britt Moore, the High Point Enterprise 'About Town' social writer & artist Mary Bojest, and High Point civic leaders such as David & Vicki Miller, first enjoyed a wine tasting from a California boutique vineyard before a sumptuous feast.
Representing High Point Rowing Club were Jackie King, Erin & Richard Sanders, Alexis King Ford and Kolson Ford, and Gene's wife Dr. Amy MacArthur.
The rowing club would like to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Lenny Peters and his team for their support of High Point and for hosting such a fun celebration.
