Triad United's Calvin Hrycay Crowned National Indoor Rowing Champion
Atlanta, GA - Triad United Rowing's Calvin Hrycay won the USRowing Men's U19 National Indoor Championships on Saturday.
USRowing held the indoor nationals at 5 satellite locations across the country over the weekend with fastest times compared across each location to determine overall national champions. Trials were held in Atlanta, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Knoxville, and Tacoma WA
Calvin travelled with his family to the Atlanta location where he won the U19 2,000 meter title with a time of 6 minutes 23.8 seconds ahead of Emersen Wright of Lake Lanier and of Ryan Goembal of Row Georgia club. Calvin's closest competition nationally came from Solomon Spears in Pittsburgh who was just 0.2 seconds behind Calvin.
Calvin then went on to also win the Men's U19 500 meter sprint later in the day with a time of 1 minute 26 seconds.
"I'm thrilled with my performance at Atlanta," said Calvin after racing. "I can't believe I held on to both events at the national level."
A senior at Oak Grove High School in Davidson County, Calvin rows daily on Oak Hollow Lake in the warmer months and trains indoors in Triad United's Rowing Studio in Jamestown during the Winter. He has been offered a place in the Engineering School at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) to study this Fall.
