Calvin Hrycay Finishes 16th at 2023 USRowing Youth Nationals

High Point, NC – Triad United's Calvin Hrycay finished the 2023 USRowing Youth National Championships ranked 16th in Sarasota, Florida this week.

The youth national championship is the premier junior rowing event in the USA, and approximately 3,500 athletes will compete in more than 840 crews representing 225 teams from across the country vying for national titles in 39 boat classes.

Calvin entered the national championships as the number 21 seed based on previous results but in the opening round time trial Calvin finished with the 14th fastest time. The result qualified Calvin for the A/B semi finals the following day. 

By Saturday's final day of racing Calvin finished 8th in the B final and in 16th place overall. 

The result adds to Triad United's recent string of top results at the youth national championships. In 2017 Junior Ognovich and Maddie Mullins finished 6th in the women's pair. In 2021 Sidney Briggs and Charloote Curri finished 15th in the women's pair and Grace Denenny, Kate Messick, Holly Spong, and Hannah Edwards finished 10th in the women's four.
